1. About these guidelines
These guidelines explain what we expect from everyone who uses LocaVibe — in profiles, activities, join requests, chats, ratings, events and partner profiles, and at meetups in person. They form part of our Terms of Use. Breaking them can lead to your content being removed or your account being suspended or banned.
No set of rules can cover every situation. If something feels wrong, it probably is — please report it.
2. Be real
- Use your real first name — the name people know you by.
- Use your own, recent photos. Your first photo must clearly show your face: no group photos, no sunglasses covering your eyes, no heavy filters, cartoons or pictures of celebrities. Don’t use AI-generated or edited images that change how you look.
- Don’t include children in your photos, even your own.
- Be accurate about your age and gender. They keep age-restricted and girls-only activities safe, and they can’t be changed in the app later.
- One account per person. Don’t create fake, duplicate or shared accounts, and don’t pretend to be someone else.
- Verify honestly. Your verification selfie must show you, live, making the requested gesture.
- Keep your profile personal. Don’t use it to advertise a business, collect followers or sell anything.
3. Respect and consent
- Treat everyone with respect, whatever their nationality, ethnicity, religion, gender, age, disability or background.
- Consent matters. “No” — or no reply — means no. Don’t pressure anyone to share contact details, meet one-on-one, drink, go somewhere else or stay longer than they want to.
- Unwanted advances aren’t OK. LocaVibe is about sharing activities; if someone isn’t interested, accept it and move on.
- Ask before you take photos or videos of other people, and never share images of anyone without their consent — in the UAE, this can be a criminal offence.
- Respect privacy. Don’t share other people’s personal information, screenshots of private conversations or details about where they live or work.
- Respect hosts’ decisions. Hosts can decline requests and remove participants — don’t argue, insult or retaliate.
4. Zero tolerance
The following are never allowed on LocaVibe — in profiles, activities, messages, ratings or events, or at meetups. We remove this content and may ban the account immediately:
- harassment, bullying, intimidation or stalking;
- threats of violence or harm, or encouraging self-harm;
- hate speech or discrimination against people because of their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, disability or other characteristics;
- sexual content or nudity, including sexually explicit messages or images;
- sexual solicitation, escort services, “sugar” arrangements or any offer of companionship for money or gifts;
- anything that involves, sexualises or endangers minors;
- graphic violence or gore;
- weapons — including selling or trading them or bringing them to meetups;
- drugs — including buying, selling, using or promoting them;
- any other illegal activity, including gambling, unlicensed alcohol sales and counterfeit goods;
- scams and fraud, including asking for money, loans or gifts, selling fake tickets and promoting investment, cryptocurrency or “get rich quick” schemes;
- spam, advertising, multi-level marketing or recruiting;
- impersonating another person, a brand or LocaVibe;
- doxxing — publishing someone’s private information, such as their address, phone number or workplace;
- sharing photos or videos of other people without their consent;
- content that offends public morals in the UAE, or that insults any religion, its symbols or its followers; and
- defamation, insults or spreading false rumours about others.
5. Respect UAE law and culture
LocaVibe is used in the UAE, and UAE law applies to what you post and how you behave. Under UAE law — including Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2021 on Combatting Rumours and Cybercrimes — insulting or defaming others online, invading someone’s privacy (for example, photographing people or publishing their photos without consent), spreading rumours or false information, and publishing content that violates public morals or offends religions can all be criminal offences.
- Follow local customs and venue rules, including dress codes, in public places such as malls, beaches and cultural sites.
- Alcohol is only for people aged 21 and over, and only in licensed venues. Being drunk in public and drink-driving are serious offences.
- The UAE has zero tolerance for illegal drugs.
- Be respectful of local culture and of the many nationalities and faiths that make up our community.
Where the law requires it, we may cooperate with the UAE authorities.
6. Meetup etiquette
If you’re hosting
- Describe your activity honestly — what you’re doing, where, when and in which language — and say upfront if there are any costs, such as tickets or splitting the bill.
- Choose a public place, especially when you’re meeting people for the first time. We strongly recommend not meeting at private homes.
- Review requests fairly and reply in good time.
- Keep the group chat up to date. If plans change, edit the activity; if you can’t make it, cancel as early as possible — everyone who’s going is notified.
- Don’t use activities to sell products or services, promote a business or recruit people for paid schemes.
If you’re joining
- Only ask to join if you really plan to go. A short note to the host helps.
- Show up or cancel. If you can’t make it, leave the activity and let the group know as early as possible. No-shows appear on your profile.
- Be on time, respect the host’s plan — including the meetup language and any agreed costs — and follow the venue’s rules.
For everyone
- Meet in public places and stay in public places.
- Alcohol only in licensed venues, only if you’re 21 or over, and only in moderation. Never pressure anyone to drink.
- For sport, beach days and trips out of town, plan ahead, bring water, take the heat seriously and know your limits.
- Buy tickets through the official link on the event page, and be wary of anyone who asks you to pay them in advance.
7. Girls-only activities
Girls-only activities give women a space to meet other women. They can be created, seen and joined only by users whose profile gender is “woman”.
- Only use girls-only activities if you are a woman.
- Misrepresenting your gender to access girls-only activities leads to a permanent ban.
- Hosts: don’t invite or bring along anyone who isn’t a woman.
- If someone who doesn’t belong joins or turns up, leave if you feel unsafe, and report them.
8. Chats and messages
- Group chats are for planning and enjoying the activity. Keep them friendly and on topic.
- Direct messages are only possible between people who were both approved participants of the same meetup, once it has started. Don’t use them to pressure anyone, and stop if the other person asks you to or doesn’t reply.
- Never send sexual content, unsolicited photos, spam or links to scams.
- Our automated filter blocks messages that contain banned words. Don’t try to get around it with misspellings or symbols.
- If a conversation makes you uncomfortable, you can block the person at any time.
9. Honest ratings
- Rate people on the meetup itself — were they on time, friendly and respectful?
- Mark someone as “Wasn’t there” only if they really didn’t come. A no-show only counts if the host or at least two participants mark it.
- Don’t rate people on their appearance, nationality, religion or other personal characteristics.
- Don’t trade, buy, demand or threaten ratings, and don’t retaliate with a bad rating.
- Individual ratings are anonymous, so rate honestly — and don’t pressure anyone to tell you how they rated you.
10. How to report and block
If someone is in immediate danger, call 999 (police) or 998 (ambulance) first.
To report something in the app
- Find what you want to report:
- a person — open their profile and tap Report, or tap “⋯” next to their name in an activity’s “Who’s going” list and choose Report;
- an activity — open it and tap Report activity at the bottom of the screen;
- a message — press and hold the message and choose Report message;
- an event — open it and tap Report event. To report a partner, report one of its events or email us.
- Choose what’s wrong: Harassment or threats, I feel unsafe, Fake profile, Inappropriate content, Spam or ads, Looks under 18, or Something else.
- Add details if you can — what happened and when. This helps our moderators act faster.
- If you’re reporting a person, you can also tick Also block this person.
- Tap Send report.
To block someone
- Open the person’s profile.
- Tap Block.
- Confirm.
Once you block someone, neither of you can see the other anywhere in the app — in the feed, on the map, on profiles, in chats or when joining activities — and each of you is removed from the other’s upcoming activities. You can see and unblock people in Profile → Settings → Blocked users.
Outside the app
Did something happen at a meetup, or can’t you use the in-app tools? Email web.pro.farid@gmail.com with the subject “Safety report” and as many details as you can.
11. What happens after you report
- Our moderators review every report within 24 hours.
- If three different users report the same activity, message or user, it’s hidden automatically until a moderator has reviewed it.
- Depending on what we find, we may remove content, warn the person, suspend or ban their account, reject or unpublish an event, or suspend a partner.
- We don’t tell the reported person who reported them.
- For privacy reasons, we may not be able to tell you exactly what action we took.
- Making reports that you know are false is itself a breach of these guidelines.
12. Enforcement
Depending on how serious a violation is, and whether it has happened before, we may:
- remove the content;
- give a warning;
- temporarily suspend the account; or
- permanently ban the account.
We don’t always follow these steps in order. Severe violations lead to an immediate permanent ban — for example, threats of violence, sexual content or solicitation, anything involving minors, scams, dealing drugs, sharing intimate images, misrepresenting your gender to join girls-only activities, or trying to get around an earlier ban. Accounts of people under 18 are removed.
When an account is banned, the upcoming activities it hosts are cancelled and everyone who was going is notified. Where the law requires it, or where someone’s safety is at risk, we may share information with the UAE authorities.
If you believe we got it wrong, email web.pro.farid@gmail.com with the subject “Appeal” and tell us why. We’ll review the decision and let you know the outcome.
13. Safety tips
Before you meet
- Check the host’s and participants’ profiles — the verified badge, ratings, number of meetups and no-shows.
- Chat in the group chat first. Be wary of anyone who pushes to move the conversation elsewhere or asks for money.
- Choose public, busy places and plan how you’ll get there and back.
- Tell a friend where you’re going. On the activity screen, use Share meetup with a friend to send a trusted person a private link with the meetup details and, if you choose, your location. The link expires 6 hours after the activity ends, and you can revoke it at any time.
- Add trusted contacts in Profile → Settings → Safety, so you can reach them quickly with SOS.
During the meetup
- Stay in public, keep your phone charged, and keep your drink and belongings with you.
- Trust your instincts — you can leave at any time, for any reason.
- Don’t share your home address, financial information or payment details, and don’t lend money.
Afterwards
- Rate the meetup honestly, and report or block anyone who made you uncomfortable.
In an emergency
Call 999 (police) or 998 (ambulance). The SOS button on the screen of an activity you’ve joined lets you call 999 quickly and text your trusted contacts with your location. LocaVibe is not an emergency service and doesn’t monitor meetups.
14. Rules for partners and events
Venues and organisers that publish events on LocaVibe must follow these guidelines and our Partner terms. In particular:
- Event details — date, time, venue, prices, offers, age limits and dress codes — must be accurate and kept up to date. Update or remove events promptly if they change or are cancelled.
- Events must be lawful and have all the licences and permits they need. Events involving alcohol or nightlife must be properly licensed and limited to guests aged 21 and over.
- No misleading offers, hidden charges or “bait and switch” promotions. Honour what you advertise, including group deals.
- Images and descriptions must be appropriate — no sexualised content and nothing that offends public morals.
- Don’t use LocaVibe to collect users’ personal data or to message them for marketing.
Every event is reviewed before it’s published. We may reject or unpublish events and suspend partners that break these rules. Paid promotions are always labelled “Promo”.
